SUGELITE

One of the newer gemstones to come onto the market in recent years is Sugilite. Sugilite is usually not well known for its name; however, if you are into gemstones and minerals, you have already probably seen it. Sugilite is wonderful semi precious stone that comes in several colors, most notably a deep purple. Sometimes known as the Purple Turquoise, Sugilite is available in large masses and truly does have wonderful hues, especially when it is very deep purple. Other fine colors that it comes in are brown, pale pink, yellow and black. Sugilite was founded in 1944 by the Japanese geologist Ken-ici Sugi. While only known for about 50 years, it is slowly becoming extremely popular, especially for its wonderful opaque purple color. Sugilite is made from a bunch of elements; however it mainly comes from potassium, sodium, lithium, iron and maganese. While this gemstone is rather rare, it is found in large masses, making it a great stone for certain types of ornamental jewelry. Many jewelers mix it with turquoise, malachite and sometimes coral to create extremely beautiful gemstone combinations. As Sugilite hasn’t been around for a long time, it is most often used as either ornamental jewelry or as mineral specimens. However, for those that are extremely spiritual, it is said that Sugilite can have a positive effect in protecting those from harm and filtering out negative energy such as anger and hostility. If you are looking for a fairly new gemstone that is extremely attractive and on the cusp of becoming popular within the jewelry marketplace, definitely look into Sugilite.
